Licence to Kill (1989)

Yes, it's a British movie, and the title is spelled "Licence". So what if they changed it for the American release? That Doesn't make Lola Rennt's original title Run Lola Run.

Fun facts:

  • The film can't decide what sort of tone it wants to take.Even the pre-title sequence flip-flops between lighthearted and almost jokey, and a dark, brutal murder/torture scene.
  • Even though Felix Leiter's just-married bride was killed at the beginning of the film, by the end, he's recovering in hospital and seems happy as a clam!
  • Wayne Newton plays a televangelist for a bogus meditation institute. The Book that he offers to give away for a donation of $100 is entitled Secrets of Cone Power Revealed."
  • That minor bad guy? Yep. Benicio del Toro.

I would have to see it again to give a fair opinion. What I remember that turned me off was the un-Bond like cheesiness. Don’t get me wrong, As you have witnessed through the Moore era, there is plenty chees to go around in Bond flicks. What bugged me is that the cheese was not… appropriate? Skydiving to catch a falling plane: cheesy (As seen in GoldenEye) Skydiving for a wedding: Un-Bond like Cheese. Ripping away Camo to reveal a Tux underneath: Chee-sy!! (Live and Let Die), Jumping with a Tux into a pool to catch with the girl who is feeling lonely: Un-Freaking-Bond like Cheese!!!!! ARRRGGHH Does this Bond have no dignity???
I like cheese… but this was rotten cheese as far as I’m concerned.
